DU-COMM is an intergovernmental agency that provides 9-1-1, public safety dispatch, and other public safety services to large portions of DuPage County and small portions of surrounding counties. These services include weather monitoring and outdoor warning siren activations.

DU-COMM’s duty managers were notified that there was a siren activation today, at 9:53 a.m.. A cancellation signal was transmitted approximately 36 seconds after notice of the activation.

The cause of this activation has not yet been determined. DU-COMM staff are actively investigating in coordination with our system vendors.

DU-COMM recognizes that erroneous siren activations can reduce confidence in the warning system and understands the concern and frustration these incidents cause. We are working hard to determine the cause of this incident and correct any issues identified to maintain public trust in the outdoor warning siren system and in DU-COMM.

The public should continue to take outdoor warning sirens seriously. When sirens are activated, take shelter and obtain additional information from trusted sources, such as a NOAA Weather Radio, the National Weather Service, and local news.
